An exceptional lab requires an exceptional leader, which is why all of us at Sierra Vista (SVH) are grateful for Vangie Hernandez, SVH Lab Manager. Once intent on becoming a neurosurgeon or obstetrician, we’re grateful that Vangie ultimately pursued a Medical Technologist career, albeit halfway around the world.

We’re proud to announce that five (5) CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) students have successfully completed 272 hours of textbook and on-the-job training. All five students were honored at a formal graduation ceremony at SVH on Thursday, August 14th, 2025. Once CNA Certification is complete, each of these graduates will begin working full time as CNA’s in Med-surg (in patient) or the ER.

She’s feeling a bit apprehensive about beginning her full-time work but is confident she is prepared and ready while also realizing there is still much to learn.

A talented and dedicated lab technician at Sierra Vista Hospital, Evelyn Artates has been with Sierra Vista for nearly 15 years. So how does someone born in the Philippines find her way to a rural hospital in New Mexico? Let’s talk a look!
